Treatments > Routine Dentistry

As well as cosmetic dentistry, at Leamington Spa Dental Practice we offer a wide range of routine dental treatments to patients of all ages. This ranges from general dental check-ups to more complex procedures, such as root canal treatment.

General check-ups

Routine dental check-ups should take place every six months, in most cases. Some patients will need to visit more often, particularly if a condition is being monitored, so always follow your dentist's recommendations. Mouth cancer screening is carried out as standard at all general check-ups.

Hygiene

Dental hygiene appointments should also in most cases be carried out every six months, unless your dentist advises you differently. This involves thoroughly cleaning your teeth with a scale and polish to remove any build-up plaque or tartar, checking for and treating any signs of gum disease, and providing home care advice to help keep your mouth healthy.

Fillings

Most of our patients opt for white fillings, although metal amalgam fillings are an option for children receiving NHS treatment. Decayed areas of your tooth are removed under local anaesthetic and a filling is placed to seal the gap. Very large areas of decay may require inlays or onlays, placed in or on top of a tooth.

Crowns and bridges

Crowns are used to give extra strength and improved appearance to worn or badly damaged teeth. They fit on top of a prepared tooth and can be made of metal or tooth-coloured material. Bridges replace one or two missing teeth, with wings or crowns on surrounding teeth providing support for a false tooth in between.

Root canal treatment

Root canal treatment is needed when the pulp or nerve at the centre of a tooth becomes infected. The infected area is removed and the root canals are carefully cleaned before being sealed and filled. In many cases, a crown is placed on top to strengthen your tooth.
